Still Using Tea Bags? Discover the Distinctive Taste of Loose
Leaf Tea
By Pilar Mena ? 2012, All Rights Reserved

Do you count yourself among the millions in the U.K. who enjoy
freshly brewed tea? If you have been making your morning (or
afternoon) cup from tea bags, you may be interested to know that
this form of tea contains only the remnants of the original
leaves. Are you surprised?
What's more, processed, bagged tea has been largely stripped of
the essential oils that give the drink its time-tested taste. No
wonder we add so much milk, sugar or lemon.

But you have another choice. If you've never tried loose leaf
tea, now's the time to elevate your tea-drinking experience.

Seeing is Believing

To get an idea of the difference between loose leaf tea and tea
bags, simply break open a bag. It's filled with crumbled tea.
what used to be tea leaves that have now been broken and
processed, allowing their natural essential oils to evaporate.
The result? A bland-tasting drink.

Next, pick up some loose leaf tea. You'll see that these leaves
are larger, longer and slightly curled. The difference comes out
when you boil loose leaf tea. This is when the leaves expand and
unfurl, releasing oils that contribute to a more immediate,
recognizable flavour.

The end product is a cup of steaming, freshly brewed tea that is
distinctly better in quality and flavour than anything you could
expect from a tea bag. Now that you're ready to give this
alternate form of tea a go, what should you look for when
purchasing?

Which Teas to Try?

All loose leaf teas are great sources of antioxidants. But beyond
that, the four best-known tea types each have its distinct
properties, tastes and health benefits.

Black - The most popular tea worldwide goes by familiar names
like Earl Grey and English Breakfast. Black tea has been
fermented and oxidized, which contributes to its robust taste and
colour. Depending on how strong a brew you use, it's also got the
biggest "kick" of the tea types, with a higher caffeine count.

Green - Green tea has grabbed the imagination of people drawn to
its Asian heritage. Because green tea has not been oxidized, the
flavour is more mellow - and the leaves contain more of the
polyphenols, catechins and flavonoids that are popularly
associated with health benefits.

Oolong - A cross between green and black teas, oolong is renowned
for its wide range of flavours and aromas - from fruity peach or
apricot to earthy sandalwood. In its loose leaf form, this tea
fosters a strong metabolism, which aids in digestion. This makes
a cup of oolong a good choice for dieters.

White - What makes white tea white? It's the natural state of the
immature buds of the tea leaf - picked at this early stage, the
leaf has a light, downy appearance. Whites have a softer, more
subtle flavour than black tea, and many of its varieties are
naturally low in caffeine.

A True Brewing Experience

Making loose leaf tea isn't difficult, and it takes only a couple
of minutes longer to brew whole leaves than to steep a tea bag.
With a small investment in an infuser and a tea strainer, you're
ready to begin.

. Heat the water according to the tea type.
. Pour the heated water into a teapot.
. Measure the leaves into a tea infuser and place the infuser
into the pot, cover and let steep for about 3 to 4 minutes.
. Add your favourite condiments, such as sugar, milk or lemon.
You may find, however, no need to add to the already hearty
flavour.

Your freshly brewed tea can be stored and chilled to drink later.
The advantage of brewing your own loose leaf tea is that you can
experiment with different amounts and blends to find the exact
strength and flavour you like best - something a tea bag can't
offer.

Take the Next Step

Look for local, London-based stores that offer tea sourced via
the Ethical Tea Partnership (working with tea growers to develop
a thriving industry that is fair and environmentally
sustainable). Then experiment with the wide range of flavours
from around the world to find a delightful alternative to the
ordinary tea you've been drinking.

If you're still using tea bags, now's the time for a whole new
perspective. Natural, delicious and easy-to-make loose leaf tea
could become your favourite cuppa yet.

When you're ready to step up to a better cup, experience the
global flavours of loose leaf tea from Taste Buds Heaven. You'll
be surprised at what a difference whole tea makes.

Galactic snack time: Stream of stars slowly being ingested by the Milky Way

ScienceDaily (Oct. 25, 2012) ? Using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, researchers have discovered a band, or stream, of stars believed to be the remnant of an ancient star cluster slowly being ingested by the Milky Way, Earth's home galaxy.

"The Milky Way is constantly gobbling up small galaxies and star clusters," said Ana Bonaca, a Yale graduate student and lead author of a study forthcoming in Astrophysical Journal Letters. "The more powerful gravity of our Milky Way pulls these objects apart and their stars then become part of the Milky Way itself."

Researchers have previously found evidence of the Milky Way eating up dwarf galaxies. Bonaca argues that the newly found stellar stream is the remnant of a star cluster rather than of a larger galaxy, because the stream is very narrow.

"Our discovery is more of a light snack than a big meal for the Milky Way," says Marla Geha, associate professor of astronomy at Yale and a co-author of the study. "Studying this digestion process in detail is important because it gives us new insight into how all galaxies form and evolve."

The new band of stars, or stellar stream, it is the first of its kind found in the southern Galactic sky, a region that has been hard to examine due to a relative lack of deep-sky imaging there. Deeper imaging enables astronomers to detect fainter stars.

Named the Triangulum stream, the newly discovered stellar stream could also help astronomers reconstruct how the Milky Way's mass is distributed, further revealing its dynamic structure.

Galaxies are believed to form hierarchically through the merger of smaller galaxies and still smaller star clusters. Stellar streams form as they are ripped apart by the gravitational force of galaxies. This process may be the primary way galaxies such as the Milky Way grow in mass, the researchers say.

Triangulum was found by searching a region recently surveyed by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III), an international collaboration that is mapping the sky through wide-field photometry.

Bonaca, Geha and co-author Nitya Kallivayalil, a Yale postdoctoral fellow, relied specifically on the survey's Data Release 8, which included information about vast new areas of the southern galactic sky.

Research support was provided by the National Science Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

Eric Church Forgot His Lyrics!

ec

Eric Church has never had a problem remembering the lyrics to his songs,? especially since he writes all his music, so you can imagine his shock when he went blank during? a recent televised appearance on the Grand Ole Opry.? What is even worse is that it was the lyrics to his biggest hits "Drink In My Hand" and "Springsteen."

Eric tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "You get on the frigging Opry on television and you forget the only two number ones that you have."

Lucky for Eric, the Opry wasn't broadcasting live that night, so he had a second shot to get the lyrics right on the later show.? The Opry producers gave him a little help too.

"I didn't even know the Grand Ole Opry had a teleprompter," Eric says.? "I just started 'Drink in My Hand' and all of a sudden the words to the song appear in the back of the theater.? I about lost it again because it was so funny."

I would think that would be one of the worst fears of an artist, forgetting the lyrics is bad but to do it at the Opry...oh the horror.? Good thing Eric could laugh it off, we all ARE only human aren't we.

How a singer balances travel and family | Simple Mom

Thanks for visiting Simple Mom. If you subscribe to the blog via RSS feed or via email, you'll get helpful tips and encouragement for simplifying life at home sent straight to you, for free!

Written by Shaun Groves.

It?s the question I?m asked most on the road. When women find out I?ve got a family back at home they wonder?

?How do you do it??

Behind the question are legitimate concerns about a father not being there for his kids? soccer games, a wife worn out from raising four children alone, a marriage losing heat from too many days and nights spent miles apart.

I?ve made my living as a singer and public speaker for twelve years now. These days I?m in 80 cities annually. And while you?re not likely to be soft rocking across America for a living anytime soon, someone in your house may be a bit of a traveler too ? if not year round then for a season now and then.

How do we do it? How do we keep our families together ? and thriving ? when mom or dad are on the road?

My wife and I didn?t do it well at all in the beginning.

I signed a record deal the day my oldest was born. And I boarded a tour bus for the first time six months later. I was the opening act on a 60 city tour that spanned three months. Few days off. No money to fly home when I had the rare opportunity either.

When the tour finally ended, over an appetizer on date night, my bride said, ?I don?t want a divorce??

(That?s one way to get a guy?s attention!)

??but I understand now why so many artist?s wives get one.?

That night Becky and I but some rules in place. They?ve kept us married, liking each other, and sane?most days.

Decide together

I don?t make any travel decisions alone. This is our life, not just mine.

Block dates

Becky and I sit down with the calendar and block important dates. Birthdays, school programs, parent teacher conferences?these days get marked on the calendar as off-limits.

Dating my wife

Every week Becky and I go on a date. It may be as simple as sitting in the minivan talking for a couple hours or as extravagant as a long dinner, a movie and an overnight stay at a bed and breakfast. The important thing is that it happens every week.

Never alone

I travel with an assistant. In the music business he?s called a road manager. Having him along gives my wife peace of mind ? that I?ll have fewer opportunities to do anything (or be accused of doing anything) that could jeopardize our marriage, that I?ll get where I?m going safely, and that I?ll eat. (Seriously. I forget to eat. They actually let people who forget to eat raise children. Can you believe it?)

Preparing the kids

My kids are never surprised when I leave. We mark my travel days on their calendars. I remind them a few days in advance about when I?ll be heading out. And then again the day before.

Set limits

Unless I?m going overseas, I?m not away from home for more than ten days each month. Our target six to eight. And I?m not gone for more than four nights in a row. Usually it?s two. And the number of days I?m gone is the number of days I must be home before I can leave again. So, if I?m gone for four days I must be home for four days before I can travel once more.

Be missed

I want my wife?s life to be harder when I?m away. That sounds terrible doesn?t it? But let me explain. If my wife?s life is easier when I?m gone, then I?m not doing my part when I?m home. I have to be very intentional about serving my family ? starting with Becky ? when I?m off the road or else I?m not her partner but just another kid for her to take care. And she?ll wish I was gone more!

Daddy day

Every Wednesday is Daddy Day. I cook all the meals, teach the kids, take them to volunteer at the food pantry down the street, oversee an art project or twelve ? spend the whole day with them. It?s my favorite day. They call it ?Daddy Day.? Becky calls it her day off. She can have lunch with a friend, catch up on her to-do list, or just sit with a large sweet tea and a magazine for hours. It?s her day to spend however she wants or needs to. And sometimes she needs and gets more than one of these in a week.

Live simply

We sold our dream house, canceled our cable, started a garden and made dozens of other changes in our life years ago ? partly ? so that life would be cheaper. The greatest benefit of living simply? Freedom. If I need to cancel a gig to meet my family?s needs, I can sure do that. It?s only happened twice in twelve years but it?s peace of mind to know we have the financial flexibility to put family first and work second and still pay the bills.

Your line of work may be much different from mine but I hope something in this list was still helpful to you and yours. Maybe it?ll just get the balance conversation started in your house.

Got a rule or trick that?s helped your family find balance? I?m all ears. I?ll be reading every comment from a tour bus. Heading out for a couple days. Be home soon.

Violence surges on Israel-Gaza frontier

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Palestinians fired dozens of rockets into Israel from Gaza on Wednesday and an Israeli air strike killed a militant in a surge of violence after the Emir of Qatar embraced the enclave's Hamas leadership with a visit.

Hamas claimed responsibility for some of the rocket and mortar bomb attacks, raising questions among Israelis over whether it had been emboldened by the Qatari visit on Tuesday that challenged the Islamist group's diplomatic isolation.

Hamas had largely held its fire when other militant factions, including jihadi groups, launched cross-border rocket attacks in recent months.

For its part, Hamas accused Israel of stepping up its air strikes in the Gaza Strip to vent its anger over Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani's visit and pledged to "continue to hold a gun ... until Palestine is liberated".

Israel said it was "astounding" that Qatar, a U.S.-allied Gulf state, would take sides in the Palestinian dispute and endorse Hamas, branded by the West as a terrorist group. Hamas seized the Gaza Strip in 2007 from fighters loyal to the Fatah faction of Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Some analysts saw the Qatari ruler's trip, the first by any national leader to Gaza since Hamas took over, as an attempt to build bridges between the group and the West and coax it into the peace camp amid Arab turmoil across the Middle East.

Previous rounds of cross-border attacks have usually run their course in days, with both Israel and Hamas seemingly aware of the risks of ramping up the low-intensity conflict to full-scale warfare.

Israel's three-week-long invasion of the Gaza Strip, launched in 2008 with the declared aim of curbing rocket launchings, drew international criticism over a heavy Palestinian casualty toll in the territory of 1.7 million.

Though hostile to Israel, Hamas has mostly sought to avoid direct clashes as it shores up its rule in the face of more radical challengers and reaches out to potential allies abroad.

NETANYAHU VISITS ANTI-MISSILE SITE

In a second day of violence, a Hamas militant was killed on Wednesday in an air strike Israel said was intended to stop rocket firings. On Tuesday, Israel killed three Hamas men, saying they had either launched attacks or were about to do so.

In southern Israel, three agricultural workers were wounded when a Palestinian rocket exploded near them.

Lieutenant-Colonel Avital Leibovich, a military spokeswoman, said 72 projectiles were fired at Israel and that the Iron Dome system intercepted seven of them. She said several homes were damaged by Palestinian fire.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is seeking a renewed mandate in Israel's January 22 election, visited an Iron Dome anti-missile battery near the southern city of Ashkelon on Wednesday and threatened stronger Israeli military action in Gaza.

"We did not choose this escalation, nor did we initiate it, but if it continues, we are prepared for a much wider and deeper operation," he said, pledging to press on with "targeted attacks" against militants preparing to fire rockets.

Israel kept schools shut in communities near the fenced Gaza boundary and residents were urged to remain indoors.

Hamas has refused to renounce violence or recognize Israel's right to exist, and is ostracized by the Quartet of Middle East mediators comprising the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia.

However, Hamas has said it would accept a truce with Israel in return for a state in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Even Fisker is attending SEMA with some custom Karmas

FISKER AUTOMOTIVE HEADS TO SEMA WITH NEW AFTERMARKET PARTNERS

Four "paint jobs" in four days

ANAHEIM, CA ? October 22, 2012: Fisker Automotive, the leading manufacturer of luxury Electric Vehicles with extended-range (EVer?), has established new partnerships with global aftermarket suppliers to give owners more ways to maximize, personalize and protect their award-winning Karma sedans.

Several examples of the Karma ? Top Gear's Luxury Car of the Year -- will be on display during the SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center October 30 through November 2, 2012.

Fisker and 3M
Fisker Automotive (www.fiskerautomotive.com) has partnered with the 110-year-old global innovation company 3M to develop and supply its Fisker Diamond Protection Film.

Fisker Diamond Protection Film is a durable, virtually invisible paint protection film that helps maintain the Karma's dramatic design aesthetic and resale value by preventing rock chips and damage from other road debris. It is backed by a five-year warranty when installed by an authorized 3M technician at any of Fisker's retail locations around the world.

To highlight the partnership, Fisker designers worked with 3M Commercial Graphics and their Scotchprint? Wrap Film Series 1080 to develop four wrap schemes for a Karma that will be on display at the 3M display (North Hall Booth 12227).

SEMA attendees will have the opportunity to watch as this Karma gets "painted" in a new scheme every 24 hours.

Gloss Burnt Orange and Brushed Black Metallic "October Sun" commemorates the fall season; Matte White and Gloss Blue Metallic racing stripes of the "Riverside" package are a nod to American racing heritage; "Classic" Hot Rod Red red with a bold, Brushed Aluminum-trimmed Gloss Black stripe honors the great American custom car scene; and the Satin Black and Gloss Burnt Orange of the "Onward." package reflects Fisker's new brand look and feel.

This Karma will also have 3M's Crystalline Automotive Film applied to its windows. Crystalline Automotive Film is a clear, multilayer optical film that cuts interior temperatures, thus reducing energy use by lowering the amount of power needed to cool the passenger compartment.

Images of each wrap are available on Fisker's digital press room at www.media.fiskerautomotive.com

Fisker and Mobil 1, the world's leading synthetic motor oil brand
Fisker has chosen Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy? fully synthetic motor oil for the two-liter gasoline engine that powers the Karma EVer's range-extending generator.

Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy fully synthetic motor oils are engineered to deliver outstanding engine protection and provide improved fuel economy, further increasing the Karma's industry-leading economy.

Because most driving can be done using just the Karma's lithium-ion battery, the engine may go long periods between running. Mobil 1's resistance to aging ensures the oil will last longer and provide excellent overall lubrication and wear protection over time.

Fisker's in-house design team personalized the Mobil 1 Fisker Karma ? called "American Icon" -- with Gloss Sterling Silver and Matte Blue Metallic striped graphics from 3M Commercial Graphics.

Attendees can see it at the DUB Arena outside the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Fisker and Goodrich Technology
One of the most impactful design elements of the Fisker Karma are the standard 22-inch 'Circuit Blade' wheels. With their five spoke inserts painted by hand, these aluminum monsters set the Karma apart and reflect its advanced technology powertrain. They are currently the only factory wheel option.

Designers at Fisker know that dollar for dollar wheels are the single best way to personalize a car. They also know sometimes that personalization comes in the form of a different finish, rather than a completely new design.

Traditional chrome plating is popular, but very harsh on the environment. As an environmentally conscious brand, Fisker looked to the Goodrich Technology Corporation and its patented PermaStar? chroming process to start expanding its wheel finish offerings.

PermaStar? uses no hazardous materials and produces no hazardous waste. It combines powder coating and vacuum metallization together to produce a true classic chrome finish with a deep rich appearance equal to traditional triple plate or show quality chrome.

SEMA attendees can see the Fisker-designed wheels featuring the PermaStar? finish on both the Mobil 1 and 3M Karmas throughout the show.

In 2008 Fisker unveiled the Karma, the world's first luxury Electric Vehicle with extended range. On sale since December 2011 the Karma was delivered to the market in record time. Nikon 1 V2 unveiled: 14.2 megapixel ILC shoots 15fps stills for $899.95 in November

Nikon 1 V2 unveiled 142 megapixel ILC shoots 1080p video for $89995 in November

It was just over a year ago when Nikon first dipped its toe into mirrorless waters with its first two 1 System cameras, the V1 and J1. Now, the company has released the V1's successor, the aptly named V2. Like its elders, the V2 has a 1200fps slo-mo capture mode, a 3-inch LCD display on the back, a high-res (1.4 million dot) electronic viewfinder, and does 1080/30p and 1080/60i video capture (Alas, 4K recording capability didn't make the cut). Unlike the V1, the V2 comes in only black or white and uses an upgraded 14.2-megapixel CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 160-6,400. It also packs a new Expeed 3A image processor in tandem with Nikon's Advance Hybrid AF to deliver higher speed shooting. That autofocus system is comprised of 73 phase detect sensors and 135 contract detect sensors, which enables the V2 to capture stills at up to 15fps for 45 continuous frames -- and it can shoot 60 frames continuously using fixed focus.

The camera itself looks quite a bit different from its brethren, with a magnesium chassis, a bulked up grip and a built-in flash, plus command and shooting mode dials up top. It's a layout not unlike Sony's NEX-7, with one dial enabling easy switching between auto and manual exposure modes and a second providing access to secondary shooting controls like exposure compensation. The camera also has a stereo mic on board along with an external mic jack for recording audio. Would-be V2 owners can grab one with a 10-30mm kit lens for $899.95, and Nikon will add 30-110mm glass to that package for $250 more when it goes on sale in late November. Want to know more? Check out our hands-on with the V2 to see the new shooter in action, and Nikon's full PR awaits after the break.

Fact check: What Obama and Romney will say

Monday's debate at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.?the last of the presidential race?will focus on foreign policy. What can we expect from President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who are neck-at-neck in recent polls? Some bluster on China, hedging on Libya, and possibly, silence on Syria. Naturally, expect some campaign spin as well.

To clear the candidates' smoke around foreign affairs, we've collected and fact-checked the key foreign policy points to keep in mind during the debate, from trade to terror.

Libya

Romney: The president's greatest vulnerability on foreign policy is possibly the controversy surrounding the terrorist attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team in Benghazi, Libya on September 11 of this year. The attack remains subject of an ongoing investigation, so any discussion suffers for a lack of the complete, official account of what happened that day.

In the last debate, when answering a question about Benghazi, the candidates spent almost the entire time discussing the semantics of phrases like "act of terror" rather than scrutinizing the actual attack. Romney accused the president of refusing to call the murders a terrorist attack until 12 days after the incident.

Romney will probably avoid fussing over vocabulary this time around. At the Town Hall-style debate last Tuesday he was fact-checked in real time by moderator Candy Crowley. As she noted, 18 hours after the event, President Obama said this in the Rose Garden:

No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.? Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America.? We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act.? And make no mistake, justice will be done.

As for the statements of Ambassador Susan Rice?whom Romney and Republicans claim diverted from the "terrorism" message, calling the murders spontaneous on Sep. 16?it's been known for some time that she and other officials were given talking points by the CIA, which ended up muddying the administration's position on the nature of the attack.

There are many other aspects of the president's handling of the attack that Romney may criticize?but if he returns to the "terror" talk, Obama is likely to have the transcript ready.

Obama: At the same time, the president is not being fully straightforward about why the Benghazi issue has become such a hot topic.

What is clear so far?from testimony given to a House investigation of the attack?is that the State Department denied requests for increased security personnel from its regional security officer for Libya; this included the city of Benghazi, where Stevens and his team were stationed.

President Obama will likely continue to avoid any direct comment on the potential negligence of the State Department in this matter, especially since Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has gone on record exculpating the president of any of the decision-making that took place leading up to the attack.

Afghanistan

Romney: Both candidates have heard the American people loud and clear: most people have totally soured on the continuing war effort in Afghanistan. The fact that only 27 percent of the public believes in the campaign has now motivated a usually hawkish Mitt Romney to lend his support to the president's 2014 withdrawal plan.

In a recent interview to ABC, GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan claimed that his running mate has ?"always agreed" with the timetable. Politifact uncovered several instances in which Romney did indeed voice support for that deadline?but usually with the hyper-qualifying addition that he would have to judge the "situation on the ground."

This could be the difference between withdrawal in 2014 and a renewed commitment to infrastructure, counterinsurgency, and military training in Afghanistan for several more years. As Josh Rogin notes in Foreign Policy magazine, even notable Republicans are aware of the elasticity of Romney's declared Afghanistan policy; and so while it is not a claim in direct conflict with the truth, his insistence that he has a clearly defined broad strategy for America's longest and now very unpopular war does not ring true with many both in and out of his party.

Iran

Romney: Romney is known to downplay the observable effects of the Obama administration's sanctions on Iran. He repeats variations on the line that he delivered earlier this year: that Obama "could have gotten crippling sanctions against Iran," but did not.

Given that Obama has presided over biting sanctions on the Islamic Republic?sanctions that Iran's leaders identify as responsible for the battering of its currency and wider economic turmoil?this talking point requires clarification. When asked about it, Romney's campaign told PolitiFact that the GOP candidate was specifically referring to an instance in 2010 when the administration failed to pass a U.N. resolution sanctioning the Iranian Central Bank.

Setting aside the probability that the veto-prone U.N. giants Russia and China would've blocked that particular resolution if it were pushed by any U.S. administration, it looks as though Romney is hoping this maneuver will come off to undecided voters as a broader failing of Obama's Iran policy

Obama: The Obama campaign has pushed back on this Romney line, stating that the president is waging an unprecedented diplomatic and economic effort to squelch the ayatollah's nuclear program. But the administration overreaches when it makes statements giving the impression that before Obama's presidency "there was no international pressure on Iran," to quote VP Biden.

PolitiFact.com notes a few serious international initiatives the Bush administration undertook to stifle the Iranians' nuclear program:

  • Resolution 1737, passed in 2006, which banned trade with Iran in all items, materials, equipment, goods and technology that could contribute to the country's development of nuclear-weapon delivery systems.
  • Resolution 1747, adopted in 2007, which banned the country's arms exports and restricted the travel of additional individuals engaged in Iran's nuclear activities.
  • Resolution 1803, approved in 2008, which froze the assets of people involved in the nuclear program.

Despite the current campaign of sanctions, the theocratic regime has not renounced its nuclear ambitions. However, rumblings this past weekend of possible one-on-one negotiations has analysts wondering if there may finally be ground for a diplomatic solution.

So while Romney will likely try to undermine the severity of the administration's sanctions, expect Obama to leave out the fact that, not only do sanctions predate his taking office, but they still haven't achieved their main purpose.

China

Obama: The tall tales over "sticking it to China" continue: in the last debate, Obama turned to his opponent and said, "you're the last person who's gonna get tough on China."

This came after the usual attacks on Romney for investing in Chinese firms; the president often alleges that Romney is a "job exporter" and usually exaggerates the personal involvement the GOP nominee has had in his investments abroad. Super PACs supportive of the president echo this line of attack, broadcasting that thousands of Chinese employees "owe their jobs" to Romney.

While it's true that a good deal of Romney's money is invested in China, Obama's charges that Bain-affiliated companies shunned America while running straight for Asia are mostly misleading: a larger trend in the global market determined their production would be located in China.

What's more, Obama tends to conflate the fact that many Chinese employees found jobs at companies that Romney had invested in with the more controversial idea that Romney "outsourced" American jobs as a matter of protocol.

Romney: Last time around, Romney repeated his charge that the president allows China to cheat trade agreements through currency manipulation, declaring that Obama has had "seven opportunities to stop them" by slapping the "manipulator" label on Beijing via the Treasury. Romney says he wouldn't hesitate to use the label, which would pave the way for settling the issue via the International Monetary Fund.

It's true that the Obama administration has passed labeling China a "manipulator," but what makes this charge hyperbolic is that it's never been clear that doing so would stop it from cheating. As PolitiFact notes, it was tried in 1994 to no avail. Plus, the idea that the Obama administration has simply been appeasing China amid its economic mischief is false: Sticking with Romney's magic number, the administration has filed seven trade complaints against China through the WTO.

Bayonet company calls Obama 'ignorant' because troops still use bayonets

(Hollie McKay, Fox News) --?Designers, stylists and fashion industry publicists routinely clamor to outfit First Lady Michelle Obama, with press releases flying out the door any time she sports a certain brand. Fashion publications praise her designer selections and several books have been published that are solely devoted to analyzing her style and taste.

However, the fashion world has remained particularly quiet on the Ann Romney fashion front, with many questioning whether or not outspoken Obama supporter Anna Wintour is keeping stylists and designers away, silently threatening their standing should they endeavor to promote their outfitting of the wife of a Republican presidential hopeful.

NHS encourages frail patients to die at home rather than seek life ...

The NHS are requesting GPs draw up ?Death Lists? of frail patients who are to be encouraged to die at home rather than seek life-saving treatment at hospital, with the objective of saving the government ?1.35 billion a year.

The Liberal Democrat Care Minister Norman Lamb has unveiled the NHS Death List ?tool kit? that GPs and Social Workers will use to identify patients to be encouraged to die. ?The ?toolkit? makes clear that a quarter of all hospital beds are occupied by dying people and said that? four in ten have no medical need to be there. ?It goes on to state that if each had one less emergency admission into hospital in their last weeks and? months, that would save the NHS ?1.35billion a year.

The ?tool kit? tells doctors: ?After several years of falling, the death rate is about to increase again as the baby boomers reach old age. This is a bad situation, which is going to get worse unless we act now.?

The government?s euthanasia plan is being disguised under the euphemism ?End of Life Care Registers? which claim to have patients best interests at heart, so they can die in comfort in their homes.

GPs have been asked to select one in every 100 of their patients likely to die over the next 12 months?to go on a ?Death list?. The GPs will not tell their patients or families that they have been selected for the ?Death List? but instead will encourage them to make Living Wills that request that nutrition and hydration are withdrawn if they become incapacitated and that they are not?resuscitated.

The NHS is distributing Death ?tool kits? not only to GPs but also to?health and social workers, which provide guidance on how to select patients for the ?Death Lists.?

It states that ?approximately? 1 per cent of people on a GP?s list [of all patients] will die each year ? this equates to an average of 20 deaths a year. Around 70 per cent to 80 per cent of all deaths are likely to benefit from planned end-of-life care.?

It said: ?Have your local practices identified the 1 per cent of their practice population who may be likely to die in the next year??

Doctors are told to pick out such patients during routine consultations that show? ?indicators of frailty and deterioration? and are told that? ?older people are a priority? to consider?.

They are also told to use feedback from district nurses or hospital consultants, while patients in care homes should be ?actively considered for your register?, the advice states.

Information for GPs on what happens to such patients said they would be ?less likely to be subject to treatments of limited clinical value?.
The Daily Mail reports:

Thousands of patients have already been placed on ?death registers? which single them out to be allowed to die in comfort rather than be given life-saving treatment in hospital, it emerged last night.

Nearly 3,000 doctors have promised to draw up a list of patients they believe are likely to die within a year, Department of Health figures showed yesterday.

Some medical professionals went public with their worries yesterday following the Daily Mail?s disclosure of the NHS request to doctors to put one in every 100 of their patients on death lists.

?

Dr Peter Saunders, of the Christian Medical Fellowship, warned about the risks of drawing up ?quotas? for the dying.

?We all know that doctors? estimates of patients? lifespans can be sometimes accurate but sometimes wildly inaccurate,? he said.

?A skilled doctor can in the great majority of cases assess when a patient is within a few hours or days of death. However, once we start to talk about weeks or months we know that we can often be right, but equally very badly wrong.?
NHS plans to creat ?Death Lists? emerged at the same time that the government rejected calls from the Catholic Church to review the misuse of the Liverpool Care Pathway:

The Archbishop of Southwark wrote to the Secretary of State for Health last month, urging him to launch a ?thorough and urgent investigation? into the controversial care pathway.

In a letter dated September 27, Archbishop Peter Smith expressed concern to the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt about the growing controversy surrounding the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP).

He wrote: ?It does seem to me that a thorough and urgent investigation needs to take place, examining the evidence on which the criticisms that have been made of the LCP rest, so that conclusions can be reached as to whether any corrective action is needed.?

Archbishop Smith added: ?If the allegations that are being made can be substantiated, there is serious cause for concern either that the LCP is in some way structurally unsound and needs to be modified or that some doctors and nurses are failing to implement the guidelines as intended.

?Equally, if the allegations are without substance, dying patients and their loved ones are at risk of being caused needless anxiety as a result of which they may well seek to avoid treatment and care from which they would benefit.?

The LCP, which is used by hospitals as a framework to guide medical care of the dying, faced fresh criticism this week after it was reported that an 85-year-old woman had died alone at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital because medics allegedly did not consult her family before placing her on the pathway.

According to reports, Olive Goom died without family or friends as hospital staff had assured relatives that there was no urgent need to visit, although they had already removed her tubes, which provided food and fluid.

Dr Anthony Cole, the Catholic chairman of the Medical Ethics Alliance, said: ?The LCP is inherently hazardous and it is also unnecessary. Excellent end of life care can be delivered without referring to the LCP framework. It is time for an inquiry by the Department of Health into how the LCP is actually operating.?

But a spokeswoman for the Department of Health told The Catholic Herald that it would not be launching an official inquiry into the LCP.

She said: ?We would expect all trusts to investigate any reports of abuse or clinical failure and to act accordingly.

?The Liverpool Care Pathway is supported by leading clinicians and charities such as Marie Curie and is NICE [National Institute for Clinical Excellence] recommended. We continue to fully support its proper use as a way of managing a patient?s care with dignity and respect in their last days.?

Jim Dobbin, a Catholic MP and co-chair of the Dying Well All Party Parliamentary Group, which opposes euthanasia and promotes palliative care, has expressed the group?s support for an inquiry.

Protect the Pope comment: With the unquestioned use of the Liverpool Care Pathway and GPs creating ?Death Lists? the government is putting plans in place to create a euthanasia conveyor belt for the Baby Boomer generation.

The Care Minister?s toolkit makes it clear that the NHS sees the ageing Baby Boomers as a ?bad situation, which is going to get worse unless we act now.? Acting now means persuading them, without their knowledge of the government?s plans, that they decline life-saving treatment in favour of dying in comfort at home on the Liverpool Care Pathway, which will lead to hydration and nutrition being withdrawn if health care professionals and social workers decide that they are dying. If they become agitated, then they will be heavily sedated to ease their ?passing?.

The objective of saving the NHS ?1.35 billion a year is being dressed up as being in the best interests of frail patients. Being told that you?re going to die soon and you have a choice of dying at home surrounded by loved ones or in hospital where you?ll be a burden on the State, what do you think old people will choose?
